Hunting in Sweden

In Sweden we organize bird hunts in the northern Swedish province of Dalarna. Here my partner has access to more than 20,000 hectares of ideal habitats for capercaillie and black cock.
We hunt three different types of forest birds, depending on the season. The season starts on August 25 and ends on 31 January. In addition to bird hunting, we also provide the hunting of beavers.


Hunting areas Our hunting areas are located in the north of the Swedish province of Dalarna.


Unterkunft

Our camp is located in the small community Husvallgölen, between Sälen and Särna in northern Dalarna. The camp has a pleasant location close to the river "Fuluälven" and is located right in the hunting area. You can go by feet (50 meters) to the river, where you can fish for grayling and trout. The new "Camp Nordic Footprints " consists of three buildings : Valhalla , Midgard and Utgard. The camp also has a large sauna, is heated by wood and can be rented.
In a package with guide also full board accomodation is possible. The meals is based on foods from the environment as well as game, fish , berries. Fruit is also included. We adapt the food to your preferences and allergies.

We hunt at a time when the birds have developed their full plumage. We hunt out of the woodwork when the dogs have found the bird sitting in the tree tops. When the first snow comes , we leave the dogs at home and are moving ahead with cross-country skiing. We hunt with a rifle caliber 222 Rem -6, 5x55 and the shoots can be between 30-200 meters. Capercaillie / Black cock hunting with dog
We have different types as we go on bird hunting. One of them is on Capercaillie and black grouse hunting with our dogs. The dog find the birds for the hunter. This may take several hours or even go very fast until the dog has found the bird. After breakfast, we walk together with the dogs in the forest. We hunt all day with some longer breaks used to rest and something to eat. After dinner, we close the evening with a wonderful sauna in our wood-fired sauna. We hunt with shotguns caliber 12-2025.

Snow Cock Hunting We hunt the snow cocks in the Swedish mountains. You can choose between two packages:
# 1: Accommodation in a comfortable cottage with sauna and other amenities. Every morning, your guide will drive to the hunting area, where you will hike out of the valley to the mountains. This package is the cheapest, but the participants have to wander in the forest.
# 2: Wilderness Camp. Together with your guide and the equipment you fly by helicopter to the hunting area in the mountains where you will set up your base camp for the next few days. In this package you will have more time to hunt, since there is no daily transport needed in the hunting area. The wilderness camp usually consists of two tents, a tent for meals and a tent for sleeping. There are no sanitary facilities.

During the season , the type of hunting is going to change. At the beginning of the season we will hunt with pointing dogs, once the snow falls, we will exchange the dogs for skis.
We recommend a shotgun caliber 12-20 as weapon. As soon as the snow falls, we will use rifles with caliber 222 Remington .

beaver hunt
The Beaver lives in rivers, but also in lakes. Therefore we hunt in different places, depending on where the beavers population is best. It is mainly stalking, but sometimes we will put us on a good spot and wait for the beavers. During spring we use skis or snowshoes in the forest.

During the three days we chase the Bieber in small groups with a maximum of 4 hunters. We hunt each in the morning and evening hours when the chancees to get beaver is best.

Example process
Day 1: Arrival after 13:00 clock, as soon as you arrive we will have a short briefing for the hunt. In the evening, the first hunting takes place before dinner.
Day 2: The hunt starts early in the morning. After the hunt you can relaxe until lunch time, and after lunch the evening hunt starts. After the hunt, dinner is served at the camp and you have the possibility to use the sauna.
Day 3: On the last day we hunt again in the morning before breakfast and after breakfast the hunt is over and the hunters go back. There is also the possibility to extend the hunt by another day (each morning / evening hunting).

climate
Despite its northern location of Sweden has a fairly mild climate which is mainly due to the influence of the Atlantic Ocean with the Gulf Stream. Most of Sweden has a humid climate with plenty of rainfall and relatively low temperature differences between summer and Winter. Polar is found only in the northern mountains. The average temperature for January is 0C to -2C in the south and -12C to - 14C in the north ( except the high mountains), the average temperature for July is 16C to 18C in the south and 12C to 14C in the north.
